The Pioneer Centre for AI's new funding opportunity
P1 Programs
We are excited to announce a new funding instrument for organizing workshops and related activities. This P1-funded initiative supports collaborative, cross-disciplinary efforts within the Danish AI community, offering up to 50,000 kr over two years to run 1–2 high-impact workshops annually.
Proposals should emphasize excellence in machine learning research, foster interaction across sectors, and align with P1’s scientific and societal goals. Applications are open to P1 affiliates, and diversity in program teams is strongly encouraged.
The deadline is 1 June 2025
Application requirements
Proposals for a P1 Program should contain the sections listed below and their length should not exceed the specified word count. The deadline for submission is June 1, 2025. You can submit by sending a PDF version of your proposal to aicentre@ku.dk and include the string “[p1 program proposal]” in the subject line.
Program name
The name of the proposed program.
Program directors (2-3 people)
For each program director, please include their name, affiliation, email, website link, Google Scholar page link, and a short bio of max 200 words. Please designate which director is the primary point of contact. All program directors are expected to be P1 affiliates1 and may not be P1 co-leads.
Program members (5-15 people)
For each program director, please include their name, affiliation, email, website link, Google Scholar page link, and whether they agreed to be part of your proposal. All program members are expected to be P1 affiliates (It is okay if a director or member’s affiliate request is in process at the time of submission. If so, please include the date of the affiliate request submission in the ‘Comments’ section).
We strongly encourage proposed programs to have diversity in terms of directors and members along the following dimensions: career stage, campus affiliation, geographic location, and gender. Participation with industry, hospitals, municipalities, or other organizations outside of academia is a plus, but not a requirement.
Overview (300 words)
Workshops organized as part of a P1 Program can have different purposes: knowledge sharing, networking, and project and funding development. Please provide a free-form description of the envisioned program, including its mission and vision. Please specify how the proposed P1 Program adds scientific value to P1 and the potential for scientific interactions. Provide convincing evidence for excellence in machine learning-driven fields within the proposed P1 program.
Activities (500 words)
Please provide an overview of the planned workshops for the Program, their focus, the purpose they serve and when/where you would (tentatively) like to run them. Relevant non-workshop activities are also allowed, but must be properly motivated. Optionally, a list of scientists to be invited as guests to some workshops can be included as well. P1 Programs are intended to run for two years. Applying for a longer program duration is allowed, but this should be clearly motivated in the proposal.
Alignment with P1 and other Nordic partners (200 words)
Program proposals should clearly state to what degree the proposed program aligns with the P1 matrix, i.e., which collaboratories and/or societal impact areas does the program topic relate to? Program proposals are allowed to go beyond the scope of the matrix as long as they retain a clear connection to AI research. We encourage proposals to identify related research groups and networks in other Nordic countries to potentially increase networking and collaboration on the proposed topic.
Comments (300 words)
You may use this optional section to add any information you feel is relevant to your proposal that is not covered in any other section.
Budget
P1 Programs can apply for max 50,000 kr in funding for the entire duration. This funding is meant to be used for organizing 1-2 annual workshops or other relevant activities. This funding can be used to invite and reimburse external guests, pay for catering and workshop dinners. Please provide a tentative budget (with justification) for your Program. There is no word limit for this section.
