Program Description

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping nearly every aspect of modern life  — from labor-markets and education to healthcare, governance, and creative expression. While these transformations promise remarkable benefits, they also raise profound ethical, social, political, and economic questions. Thus, there is an urgent need for a dedicated, collaborative, and interdisciplinary community of researchers focused on exploring the complex interactions between AI and society and AI’s profound influence on society.

This inaugural P1 program aims to fulfil this need by providing a forum for researchers from computer science, humanities, and social sciences to collaboratively investigate the societal impacts of AI technologies. Specifically, with the aim to organize three interdisciplinary workshops alternating between Aarhus and Copenhagen. The workshops will focus on two themes: (1) the impact of AI on society, including its effects on social structures, cultural norms, and individual behaviors; and (2) the applications of AI in social science and humanities, such as natural language processing, machine learning, and data analytics. By exploring these themes, participants will gain insights into the potential benefits and challenges of AI adoption in their respective fields.

Through this program, the anticipation is to establish a vibrant network of interdisciplinary researchers within Denmark, fostering innovative collaborations, and advancing our understanding of AI’s role in shaping society and vice versa. With great power comes great responsibility; therefore, the aim is to surface the biggest unanswered questions that we
need to address as a community. By fostering cross-disciplinary conversations and co-creating knowledge, the aim is to not only critique existing AI practices but also envision and promote more socially beneficial and equitable AI futures, both globally and within Denmark. Ultimately, this program will contribute to the development of more informed, responsible, and effective AI applications in various domains.
